Take a look at how Ultra LEDs stole the limelight and played their own starring role in a big-screen smash

Ultra LEDs don’t just stock a wide variety of products for homes and businesses; sometimes they are called-upon to provide Hollywood’s very own bright lights when Tinsel Town comes calling for their next big blockbuster.

This was evident when film makers required a number of LED products for the filming of the 2012 smash Prometheus.

What?

Described by critics as, “A voyage into the unknown that conjures more questions than it answers,” Prometheus was Ridley Scott’s long-awaited sort-of-Alien-prequel. Having entered production in April 2010, with extensive design phases during which the technology and creatures that the film required were developed.

Principal photography began in March 2011, with an estimated US$120–130 million budget. The project was shot using 3D cameras throughout, almost entirely on practical sets, and on location in England, Iceland, Spain, and Scotland.

How?

The set designers of Prometheus have been a regular customer from Ultra LEDs for years because of our expert knowledge on lighting, and quick response time. We were able to fabricate all the kits to a required specification in the U.K and had all the required parts in stock which enabled us to meet the tight delivery deadline.

By using over 3,000m of tape in bespoke colouring Ultra LEDs built the lighting for the helmets on the film set that created stunning cost effective quick solution.

Why?

LED tape is very affordable and offers reliable and efficient light output.

This makes it enormously beneficial to the film industry thanks to its versatility and the fact it isn’t overly expensive when costs are involved. The possibilities with LEDs are huge, which allows designers to bring their bright ideas to fruition on-time and within budget.
